PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Swedish Lahti 9mm Pistol Model 40, 4.75" Barrel - Manufactured by Husqvarna Vapenfabriks - Various Surplus Condition The Husqvarna M40 is a Swedish made copy of the Finnish Lahti L-35 pistol. It is a a semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9mm Parabellum / Luger. It was designed for the Finnish Armed Forces by the famous Finnish weapons designer Aimo Lahti. The Lahti L-35 was produced between 1935 and 1952 in Finland while the Model 40 Swedish variation was licensed to Sweden in 1940. The first m/40s were delivered to the Swedish military by 1942 with slight differences from the Finnish L-35 Lahtis. The grips of the m/40 have the Husqvarna "crown H" motif engraved and the front sight was slightly larger. The barrel is also slightly longer on the m/40 than the Finnish Lahti with the m/40's trigger guard being heavier, and the pistol does not have the loaded chamber indicator and lock-retaining spring of the Finnish Lahti. These are a very rare find and are considered an absolute collectors dream. The pistols came to us in various surplus conditions and are being sold at different price points based on their condition as listed in the custom options field below. Please see extended description and the accompanying video for further details.

Swedish Lahti 9mm Pistol Model 40, 4.75" BBL - Manufactured by Husqvarna Vapenfabriks - Various Surplus Condition The Husqvarna M40 is a Swedish made copy of the Finnish Lahti L-35 pistol. It is a a semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9mm Parabellum / Luger. It was originally designed for the Finnish Armed Forces by the famous Finnish weapons designer Aimo Lahti. The Swedish Army insisted on issuing the M39B machine gun ammunition for both the M40 pistols and their M45 machine gun even though the chamber pressures generated by the machine gun ammo were sometimes too high for use in the semi-auto M40. As such the M40's developed a reputation for developing cracks in the receiver under heavy use with this ammunition. In spite of the the Model 40 remained in service well into the 1980's before being completely replaced by the Glock 17 in the early 1990's.
About the designer. Aimo Johannes Lahti (April 28, 1896 – April 19, 1970)[1] was a self-taught Finnish weapons designer who held the title of Master Weapons Armorer in the Finnish Army. Of the 50 weapons he designed, he is possibly best known for the Suomi M-31 SMG. Other well-known weapon designs of his include the Lahti-Saloranta M/26 LMG, Lahti L-35 pistol, and Lahti L-39 anti-tank rifle. Lahti also designed the 7,62 ITKK 31 VKT anti-aircraft machine gun and the 20 ITK 40 VKT anti-aircraft cannon. His work is considered decisive in defending Finnish independence and increasing trust in the reliability of domestic weapons produced there.
