The Hornady 400421 is crafted based on the highly regarded XTP bullet design, evolving further into the optimal competition projectile known as the HAP (Hornady Action Pistol) bullets. The classic features of XTP bullets such as folds and a cannelure, which contribute to controlled expansion and superior terminal performance, have been intentionally omitted from the HAP bullets. This results in a smooth, balanced projectile.
Another significant aspect of the HAP bullets is the protected nose that ensures consistent and reliable feeding in automatic firearms. The traditional hollow point bullets are characterized by a hollow cavity at their nose which triggers expansion upon impact.
